Piper is a popular variety of sudangrass. It performs well in dry conditions. As it is a member of the sorghum family, there is a risk of prussic acid poisoning in livestock, but it can be mitigated with proper management (not grazing before 24" tall, allowing acid to disapate after killing frost). This generally does not cause issues in free range situations where there are other options.

Seeding rate ranges from 20 to 50 pounds per acre. The higher the rate, the finer the stems, making it more palatable. Depth: 1/2" to 1" once soil temps have reached 55 degrees.
