Forage turnips typically have a slightly smaller bulb than purple top turnips, but they produce significantly more top growth. They are very palatable and a popular choice for livestock producers and food plots. Turnip seed is very small, so only a few pounds per acre are needed in a mixture. In most years, turnips will winter kill. It is possible for turnips to over-winter in a mild winter with snow cover; however, it is not typical to have a large population the following year.

For best results seed 1 - 3 pounds per acre at 1/4" depth in August. We recommend seeding 60 to 90 days prior to a killing frost.
